Meerkats live in groups of up to 25, and can live in partially overlapping territories, marking it with secretions of the anal glands. These packs chase or fight one another if they meet. Meerkats shelter in burrows measuring up to 16 feet across with multiple entrances. There can be even several levels of tunnels and chambers, extending over three feet below ground. They can also return to the tunnels, avoiding the midday heat and resting for the afternoon. But they DO look all so cute and vigilant while standing guard duty!!
