Description
This view has probably changed jes a tiny bit since it was first seen in 1770 by Captain James Cook, and if any of those few of those days were still alive today, they would probably not remember how it looked so long ago. Sydney Harbor looks quite modern today, though parts of the harbor area still retain parts of its centuries old heritage. When the First Fleet arrived from Great Britain, it wasn't called Australia, and the British weren't even the first to drop anchor here, that historic moment recorded as being the Dutch in 1606. In 1770, the HMS Endeavour moored at Botany Bay to the south of what is now Sydney Harbor. Almost two decades later, and the first European settlement in Australia was formed, marking it the oldest British settlement then. The city Sydney was created and given its name, in honor of British home secretary Lord Sydney. Have you experienced Sydney and its history yet?
Yet another fond memory from the archives on this 749th Day of the still quite active pandemic, so pleaseee stay safe!!
